Agwa Coca Leaf Liqueur
Agwa de Bolivia is one of the most distinctive bottles on any back bar - a vivid green herbal liqueur built around Bolivian coca leaf, harvested high in the Andes and combined with 36 herbs and botanicals including guarana and ginseng. The leaves are processed under customs supervision so that no active alkaloids remain in the finished spirit, leaving behind the bright, grassy, faintly minty character that makes Agwa unlike anything else in the liqueurs category.
The house traces its botanical craft back to 1863, and the result is a liqueur that drinks far more elegantly than its neon colour suggests: herbaceous and green on the nose, lightly sweet through the middle, with a cool eucalyptus-and-citrus lift on the finish.
How to drink Agwa
Serve it ice-cold over rocks with a generous squeeze of fresh lime - the acid cuts the sweetness and pushes the herbal notes forward. It also shines in any lime-driven cocktail: swap it into a Mojito or Caipirinha for a herbal twist, shake it with tequila and lime for a green Margarita variation, or top it with soda and mint for a long, low-alcohol refresher. Bartenders also pour it as a shot alongside citrus.
