Since Langton's inaugural Classification in 1991, Brokenwood's Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz has commanded its place among Australia's most distinguished and collectible wines. Recognised first as Outstanding, then elevated to Exceptional, this Hunter Valley masterpiece has long embodied the pedigree and unwavering excellence of its storied terroir. In December 2023, Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz ascended to the pinnacle with Langton's 8th Edition, achieving 1st Classified status. a newly introduced accolade reserved for wines of exceptional legacy, robust secondary market performance, and enduring regional character. This prestigious recognition places Graveyard alongside legendary icons such as Penfolds Grange, Henschke Hill of Grace, Mount Mary Quintet, and Wendouree Shiraz. It stands as the sole red wine from New South Wales and the only Shiraz from the Hunter Valley to receive this honour—a true benchmark for the region. Named after original plans for a cemetery within Pokolbin that never came to fruition, the vineyard's first single selection emerged in 1983. As Brokenwood's flagship expression, each vintage is celebrated at the annual Graveyard Launch held each May—an exclusive gathering of approximately 300 guests in the winery barrel shed, featuring refined dining, entertainment, and the inaugural tasting of the new release.
