DESCRIPTION:

Lagavulin 12 Year Old Special Release 2020 is a powerful and distinctive Islay single malt, bottled at natural cask strength as part of Diageo’s annual Special Releases. Matured for 12 years in traditional refill American oak casks selected to highlight the classic character of the distillery, this is a particularly intense expression of Lagavulin.

The nose opens with ash, wood smoke, linseed oil and a touch of sea air, followed by lighter notes of boiled sweets and fruit. On the palate, it is smooth and full-bodied despite its strength, bringing together deep peat smoke, gentle sweetness and a touch of salt. There are also hints of citrus, vanilla, pepper and grilled fruit, giving the whisky plenty of depth beneath the smoke.

Bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.4%, this Special Release is non-chill filtered and retains its natural colour. The finish is long, smoky and slightly salty, with the peat and coastal character lingering well after each sip. A striking bottling for fans of heavily peated Islay whisky and a particularly sought-after vintage from Lagavulin's Special Releases.
