Is Australian whisky actually good?

World-class — and that's official. Sullivans Cove won World's Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards in 2014, Starward has been named one of the world's most awarded distilleries, and Tasmanian single casks routinely beat famous Scottish names in blind judging.

What does Australian whisky taste like?

There's no single style, but wine-cask influence is the signature: red berries, plum jam and spice over a malty core. Tasmanian malts tend toward honey, oak and orchard fruit — closer to a fine Highland dram.

Why is Australian whisky more expensive than Scotch?

Scale. Most Australian distilleries are small-batch operations measured in barrels, not warehouses, and premium wine casks cost real money. You're paying for scarcity and hand-made production — not marketing.
