Brave Souls 'The Able Seaman' Grenache

DESCRIPTION:

A vibrant, old-vine Barossa Grenache from Brave Souls, the label founded by winemaker Julia Weirich in collaboration with Simon Cowham and Corey Ryan of Sons of Eden. The fruit is drawn from two vineyards of 90+ year-old vines in the Southern Barossa Valley, sitting between Lyndoch and Rowland Flat in the foothills of the Barossa Ranges.

Handpicked and predominantly destemmed with a 15% whole-bunch contribution, the fruit is cold-soaked before a natural ferment, hand-plunged daily and left 20 days on skins. It is then pressed to large seasoned oak barrels for 12 months maturation, racked, naturally clarified and bottled.

Bright ruby in colour, with a vibrant bouquet of mixed wild berries, red-liquorice spice and a hint of confectionary. The palate displays a fresh vibrancy and richness with seamless supporting tannins, and finishes with excellent balance and length. Excellent with chargrilled lamb, charcuterie or a mushroom risotto.

The Brave Souls name is inspired by the story of the 1859 Admella shipwreck, with the label artwork created by iconic Australian artist Bruce Goold.
