What is the best prosecco to buy in Australia?

For everyday drinking and spritzes, a fresh Prosecco DOC or a King Valley prosecco such as Dal Zotto, De Bortoli or Brown Brothers is hard to beat for the money. For a special occasion, look for Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG, which has more texture and a longer finish. Whatever you choose, buy the most recent release.

Is Australian prosecco as good as Italian prosecco?

The best King Valley producers make prosecco that holds its own against Italian DOC, often at a lower price. The Italian hillside DOCG wines still have a depth and finesse that is hard to match. The two styles are close enough that tasting one of each side by side is the best way to find your preference.

Is prosecco sweet or dry?

Most prosecco is labelled Brut or Extra Dry. Brut is the driest of the two, with up to 12 grams of sugar per litre. Extra Dry, despite the name, is a little sweeter at around 12 to 17 grams per litre. Both taste fresh and fruity rather than sugary.

Does prosecco go off once opened?

Opened prosecco loses its bubbles quickly. Seal it with a sparkling wine stopper, keep it in the fridge and finish it within a day or two. Unopened bottles should be stored cool and dark and drunk within about two years of release.

Which prosecco is best for an Aperol spritz?

A straightforward Prosecco DOC or an Australian prosecco. Once you add Aperol, soda and ice the finer detail of a DOCG is lost, so save the premium bottles for drinking on their own.
